Four From IHCC on All-Region Team

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills placed four players on the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference All-Region XI women's soccer team, announced by the ICCAC.

The all-conference players from Indian Hills included first-team selection Brooke Duea, a sophomore from Earlham, who led IHCC in goals with 11 and added four assists; Caroline Gagliardi, a sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, who tallied five goals and a team-high six assists, and was chosen for the second team; and two freshmen from Centerville, Crystal Maldonado and Jordan Davis, who were both named to the honorable mention list. Maldonado was second on the squad with six goals.

Ashley King added three goals for the Warriors this season while Sara Sosa, Angel Daub and Cassie Pietz all had two goals. Freshman Abby Donnolly was the lone goalkeeper used by IHCC.

IHCC first-year head coach Kirk Artist complimented the Warriors for the effort they played with this season. "These young ladies came into the season and worked hard for each other. They showed a lot of heart playing through injuries and many other obstacles throughout the season. This was a very tight-knit group that enjoyed each other's company and played because they enjoy the game of soccer. I am proud of them for representing Indian Hills with such class.”

Maldonado Has Lone Goal in IHCC Defeat

Bettendorf, IA --The Indian Hills' women's soccer team went on the road Monday and was beaten by Scott CC, 11-1. The Warriors had lost a 4-3 decision to Scott earlier in the season, but got routed in the return match.

Crystal Maldonado scored the only IHCC goal on an assist from Caroline Gagliardi.

Indian Hills will conclude the regular season schedule with a match in Waterloo against Hawkeye CC on Thursday.

No. 6 Iowa Western Blanks IHCC

Council Bluffs, IA -- Iowa Western, ranked sixth in the nation in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, was too much for Indian Hills on Saturday with the Reivers taking a 14-0 win in women's soccer on the IWCC campus.

The Warriors will go to Fort Dodge on Wednesday to take on Iowa Central, a team they lost to 4-0 earlier in the season.

Duea Leads IHCC Rout of MCC

Marshalltown, IA -- Led by five goals from sophomore Brooke Duea (Earlham) and two goals by three other players, the Indian Hills women's soccer team won their second consecutive match on Tuesday, pounding Marshalltown CC 12-0.

Duea's big day followed an earlier performance against Marshalltown when she scored four goals and added two assists. She assisted on one of the other IHCC goals in the most recent contest with MCC.

Sophomore Caroline Gagliardi (Sau Paulo, Brazil) and freshmen Crystal Maldonado (Centerville) and Cassie Pietz (West Point) all had two-goal games for the Warriors. Gagliardi also picked up three assist. Freshman Angel Daub (Afton) also scored an IHCC goal, her first of the season.

Freshman goalkeeper Abby Donnolly (Mt. Pleasant) had a relatively quiet day in goal for Indian Hills with four saves in the shutout victory.

The Warriors' season record is now 3-5. They will play at Iowa Western CC on Oct. 3.

Gagliardi Scores Twice as Warriors Win

Ottumwa -- Carlone Gagliardi (Sao Paulo, Brazil) notched two of the goals as the Indian Hills women's soccer team picked up its second victory of the season on Saturday, knocking off Hawkeye CC, 4-1, at the Walsh Soccer Complex.

Freshman Crystal Maldonado (Centerville) also scored for the Warriors, whose other goal came when a Hawkeye player knocked the ball into her own net. Brooke Duea (Earlham) led the Warrior offense with six shots and she had an assist.

Abby Donnolly, an IHCC freshman from Mt. Pleasant, turned away seven shots on goal for Hawkeye.

The Warriors' win improves their season mark to 2-5. Indian Hills will try to duplicate an early-season win over Marshalltown when they take on the Tigers on their home field on Tuesday.

Warriors Edged by Scott

Ottumwa -- The IHCC women's soccer team came up short in its attempt to snap a four-match losing streak on Monday. The Warriors were nipped by Scott CC, 4-3, at the Walsh Soccer Complex.

Indian Hills got goals from sophomores Brooke Duea (Earlham) and Caroline Gagliardi (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and one from freshman Angel Daub (Afton). Gagliardi also assisted on one of the goals for IHCC.

Freshman goalkeeper Abby Donnolly (Mt. Pleasant) was credited with 13 saves for the Warriors.

Indian Hills will host Hawkeye CC this Saturday afternoon at 4:00 at the Walsh Complex. It will be the first of three matches in four days for the Warriors, who play in Des Moines against the Grand View JV on Sunday and at Marshalltown next Tuesday.

Iowa Western Buries Warriors

Ottumwa -- Iowa Western opened up a 7-0 halftime lead and went on to defeat Indian Hills, 17-0, in action at the Walsh Soccer Complex on Saturday. The loss drops the Warriors' season record to 1-and-1. Indian Hills will take on the William Penn junior varsity in Oskaloosa on Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m.

IHCC Opens With Drubbing of MCC

Ottumwa -- Sophomore Brooke Duea and freshman Ashley King combined for seven goals as the Indian Hills women's soccer team rolled over Marshalltown CC, 10-0 in the season opener for both teams on Tuesday at the Walsh Soccer Complex in Ottumwa. Duea scored four goals and added two assists and King had three goals and a pair of assists in the Warriors' rout.

King opened the scoring at the seven-minute mark of the first half. Duea followed with her first goal around 10 minutes later and King scored again to make the score 3-0 at halftime. Goals by freshman Crystal Maldonado and Duea just three minutes apart started the second-half scoring for the Warriors. King then completed her hat trick with her third goal, Duea added a pair of goals, and Ottumwa High School graduate Sarah Sosa tacked on two late scores for IHCC.

For the match, Indian Hills outshot the visitors, 31-2. Abby Donnolly, a freshman from Mt. Pleasant, had a quiet day in goal for the Warriors, with just two saves. In addition to Duea and King, Sosa, Brissa Ceja, Caroline Gagliardi and Maldonado all assisted on IHCC goals.

Indian Hills first-year coach Kirk Artist said, "I was excited to see the women play with a lot of energy and put some balls in the back of the net."

Indian Hills will get a much tougher test on Saturday when the Warriors take on Iowa Western at the Walsh Complex starting at 4:00.

2008 Season Recap

The Indian Hills women’s soccer team made considerable progress in its second season, ending the campaign with a 7-11 record. Four of the wins were shutouts. Brooke Duea led the squad in scoring with 22 goals and five assists. Caroline Gagliardi added nine goals and Kelsey Rockwell and Kayla Rainey each scored seven goals.

Indian Hills had four players named to the All-Region team. Marianne Kraus was chosen for the first team, Jenny Steffensmeier was picked for the second team and Amber Ford and Haley Hamilton were both honorable mention choices.
