IHCC Opens With Drubbing of MCC

Ottumwa -- Sophomore Brooke Duea and freshman Ashley King combined for seven goals as the Indian Hills women's soccer team rolled over Marshalltown CC, 10-0 in the season opener for both teams on Tuesday at the Walsh Soccer Complex in Ottumwa. Duea scored four goals and added two assists and King had three goals and a pair of assists in the Warriors' rout.

King opened the scoring at the seven-minute mark of the first half. Duea followed with her first goal around 10 minutes later and King scored again to make the score 3-0 at halftime. Goals by freshman Crystal Maldonado and Duea just three minutes apart started the second-half scoring for the Warriors. King then completed her hat trick with her third goal, Duea added a pair of goals, and Ottumwa High School graduate Sarah Sosa tacked on two late scores for IHCC.

For the match, Indian Hills outshot the visitors, 31-2. Abby Donnolly, a freshman from Mt. Pleasant, had a quiet day in goal for the Warriors, with just two saves. In addition to Duea and King, Sosa, Brissa Ceja, Caroline Gagliardi and Maldonado all assisted on IHCC goals.

Indian Hills first-year coach Kirk Artist said, "I was excited to see the women play with a lot of energy and put some balls in the back of the net."

Indian Hills will get a much tougher test on Saturday when the Warriors take on Iowa Western at the Walsh Complex starting at 4:00.
